I
am pleased to report that our fund raising for the pre-campaign study
was successful. We were
able to raise $13,550.00 to pay Dorris & Associates for the
pre-campaign work which they did. Thanks
to Dorris’ efforts, we have determined that not only is the idea of a
fund raising campaign to re-build the Pi Lam house a good idea, we
should be able to raise at least $700,000.00.
Great thanks to the following brothers who responded to my call
for funds:
A special thanks goes to Chuck Steinmetz.
Chuck has not only agreed to chair the fund raising campaign, he
generously gave us seed money to begin our fund raising efforts.
We have begun the process of raising the money needed to renovate
the house. Our goal is to
not only raise enough money for the renovations, but to raise enough
funds to establish an endowment which will help protect the house
financially in the future. While
Dorris’ study estimated that we should be able to raise between
$700,000.00 and $900,000.00, our goal is to raise $1,000.000.00. With this type of financial commitment from the brothers, we
should be able to create a house that we are proud to visit, a place
where we can look forward to taking our families to see where we
acquired so many memories.
We, either brothers or Greg McElroy from Dorris, will be
contacting you during the next six months or so.
We will be asking you to make as significant a commitment as
possible in the form of a pledge payable in annual installments of up to
five (5) years. After
approximately one month of our campaign, we have already received
commitments for in excess of $250,000,000.00, ranging from $100,000.00
to $2,500.00. We hope to
announce that we have reached a significant threshold at the 75th
Anniversary on April 29, 2000.
Your help is needed. I
ask you to think back on your experience at Pi Lam while you were at the
University of Florida. I
especially ask you to think about the life-long relationships you built
as a result of being a part of the fraternity. We would all be different
people if we where not Pi Lams.
When we contact you, please respond by giving us your time, your
suggestions of fellow brothers who could and likely would support us,
and your financial commitment. Join
us in re-establishing Pi Lam at UF!
In addition to your financial commitment, we need some of your
time and professional expertise. While
it is our pleasure to work for the survival of Florida Delta, we, the
twenty or so brothers who are leading this effort, cannot do everything
ourselves. We need you to
help us on the following committees: Construction Committee
(design and construction,
including donated materials and services) Recruiting Committee Web page Development Committee PR Committee Operations Committee
(to establish the operating
rules and procedures for when the house is re-established)
Please respond by e-mailing
us to let us know if you are willing to give us your time and efforts.
Thank you for your continued interest and support.
We look forward to working with you to make this a successful
campaign, preserving for the future the traditions which we have
established.
