New York Minutes
Hello to all of my internet brothers.
I have been asked by Bruce and Gary to update, inform, and entertain with a lil bit of New Yawk attitude. I should have said "Faa-get about it" but instead have said "what the ****". I'll give it a shot.
Perhaps an intro would be a good start. My name is Ricky Gordon from Pledge Class 78. (Yes, the class that turned the house around!!!) Some of you may remember me as "Flounder" a nickname I foolishly gave myself at a pre-rush party in Miami. The name really never achieved the legendary status of a "Kop" "Slo" "Moke" or "Zuh". So outside of a chance meeting with Rick Salzman or Brad Robbins I rarely hear the name mentioned "even above a whisper."
For those of you younger or older I really do apologize for the references to the guys from my days at 15 frat row. I will make a sincere effort to include a lil bit of the old with a lil bit of the new. Please remember I have very limited data to pull from.
I have heard that Marvin Sheldon is doing well and states off the record that "Viagra as a drug is very overrated and he personally prefers old porn's with any or all of the numerous Lynn woman in them. I also hear from son and fellow house turner arounder, Steven, that Anna believes Porsche Lynn really was misunderstood and not enough people truly appreciated her talents. Anna has said, and I paraphrase here, "She was constantly overshadowed by the fine work of Ginger and Amber but give Porsche her due."
Okay that's all for now for the old guys.
A young Florida Deltas name was recently mentioned in the national news. And no he was not recently indicted. The source was ESPN reporting that Hadley Englehard a former Rex and nosebowl quarterback has entered into an agreement with some rapper to become the next Master P. I know this is all slang to you old guys but trust me its "all good". I also hear that Hadley is now wearing his suit pants oversized according to sources to show that he is "down with O.P.P". A three year deal has been finalized with Fubu and he has been seen sporting
his Fubu boxers around the very tony Buckhead area underneath his oversized Armani suits. I apologize for not knowing who the above mentioned rapper is but I am pretty sure it is not Puff Daddy, L.L. Cool J., or Jay Z. Hadley please keep us posted and how bout seeing if we can get Jennifer Lopez to become an honorary Lil Sis. Lil Kim might work. Heck, see if Chili and Left Eye are interested too!
Seriously Hadley best of luck.
Speaking of agents and sports it looks as though some guy named Tank is in a heep of trouble for helping some Florida Gator first round draft picks with there new Benz's and Range Rovers. Gators open with two girls schools and than we see if this team is ready to compete for another National Championship. Playing in the Swamp should be a big help. Go Gators!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Boy have I been rambling here. I apologize. Where was I now? I believe I was asked to write and give a Lambos perspective with a northeast slant. OK here goes.
I have recently relocated to New Jersey for of all things a woman. ( Go ahead and insert any punch line you would like at this point). But come on guys try and be creative about it. I have been here for a lil over 3 months so I am far from an expert on this part of the country. I am a native Floridian who outside of my Gainesville years has never lived anywhere else but South Florida.
Some stereotypes and my thoughts.
1) People are rude selfish and self absorbed.
Hey I left Miami, so I have not noticed that much of a difference. But yes it is a bit tougher up here. People do not smile ever and tend to look straight ahead. Also the train fold is very popular form of reading the paper.
2) The Bagels are better.
They say it has something to do with the water. I don't fuckin know. There good up here but I was
pretty happy with Sage Delicatessen in Hallandale. And can't water be bottled??????
3) The Pizza is better.
See above plus I am trying to cut back on my Carbs.
4) The Yankees are better than the Marlins.
Nuff said. Yankee Stadium is a special place with tons of history. Pro Player stadium is a nice place to see a Dolphin Game.
5) Parking in the city is ridiculous.
That's putting it nicely. It sucks and costs a fortune.
6) The Public transportation is outstanding.
Have you taken many buses in Miami? I am still driving my car.
7) New Jersey sucks.
Hey it gave us Springsteen and The Soprano's!!!! It gets a bum rap. There is a lot more to Jersey than Newark.
8) There is so much culture in the Northeast.
My satellite is being installed this weekend. Still watching sports in my underwear. You are asking the wrong guy!
9) U.S Open VS. The artist formerly know as The Lipton (Sorry Mike Elkin)
Both great events in there own special ways. I love em both!
10) Rutgers Scarlet Knights football VS. Gator football.
Faa-get about it!
Lambos in the Northeast (that i know of)
Brad Epstein Westchester, NY, MIchael Singer Manhattan ??? Doug Garfield Westchester NY,
Keith Cutler Northern Va.,Michael Baron Northern Va. Richie Rosenzweig Manhattan ?
Ed Crowder North Carolina, Jeff Fischler Manhattan ?
Would appreciate finding out if there are more of us up here. Keep me posted and I will try and do the same.
I am hoping this website encourages some catching up, interaction and just a few laughs along the way. Many of us have left Gainesville never to be heard from or seen again. I personally think that is unfortunate. I have fond memories and many friends from those times and I think in today's hi tech age this is a perfect medium for reestablishing old bonds and starting new ones. The net and Palm Pilots have become the rage today. Many of us have less time and far greater responsibilities than when we were younger. This medium allows us a chance to take some time
and catch up. I am sure all of you will use this medium differently and that is in fact one of the beauties of it. I hope this writing finds all of my brothers in good spirits and in good health. If you are coming here or live here in the Northeast please give me a ring. 201-507-1113.
Fraternally yours,
Flounder
P.S. My horoscope today said: "If people are not receptive to your creativity, you could be aiming your product at the wrong audience. Old school friends contact you by mail with inspiring news."
