1983 - 1984 was the first year that Pilam did not publish a Pearl since 1956. As luck would have it, Jeff Kramer (pc '82), the historian for 83-84, kept several pictures. These never before seen pictures are included here. This is the closest we will get to a Pearl.
This was also the year that Pilam was the epicenter of a controversy of national scale. During Rush Week, there was an alleged incident of group sex at the house. Pilam was put on probation. We were unable to play athletics (except for Nosebowl), could not have socials, could not have little sisters, and were required to get a house parent. It was not uncommon to find protesters in front of the house, or read about us in local and national news. Despite all of this, we bound together, and came out as a stronger fraternity. We won our first Nosebowl by score since 1980, setting the ground work for an 8 game winning streak (a Nosebowl record). Out of this darkness, the fraternity would thrive for the next several years. |
