1966 Nosebowl
Determined Pledges Triumph 12-6

If there can be one thing that is the most important goal of a Pi Lambda Phi pledge, it is, and always has been winning the annual Nosebowl game against Tep pledges. This year the Pilam Pledge Class did just that. On November 13, 1966, the Baby Lams thwarted the Tep drives and crushed their spirit, then scored twice to emerge triumphant, 12-6.

For weeks, the pledge class practiced for this game, Coach Nick Nicosia took them, and molded them  into an outstanding squad. Finally, the day came and the house drove in mass to Citizens Field, sight of the game.

In the game, Pilam started slow. Tep scored first and held a 6-0 lead at halftime. However, it was near the end of the first half that the Lammies began to show signs of what was to come. Defensive ends Scott Kimball and Alan Levi began to turn the Tep plays up the middle; defensive half back Ken Weiss made a sensational interception; quarterback Danny Herman began to find his sure fingered targets.

Midway through the second half, Pilam began to drive. Herman hit receivers Levi, Bruce Friedin, and Mike Fried with regularity. Eventually, Herman took the ball on the Tep 20 yard line, rolled right and fired a perfect strike to end, Mike Lavrenzi, all alone in the end zone. The conversion attempt failed, and the score was tied, 6-6.

The score remained 6-6 at the end of regulation play. This forced the game into sudden-death overtime. Tep got the ball, and was unable to move, as the Baby Pilam rusher, Vic Richards, made several key grabs. Then the Pilam offense began to move down the field with precision, and finally, quarterback Herman hit end Alan Levi with a pass on the Tep 10 yard line. Levi ran in from there, happily leaping into the Tep end zone, showing the joy and the exuberance that all Pilams felt at that ecstatic moment. Victory was ours!
